Dr Martine Piccart was honoured with the KNAW Bob Pinedo Cancer Care award, during the “Think BIG: Advances in Breast Cancer Treatments” symposium that took place in Amsterdam on 22 November 2018.

She received the prestigious award for her many contributions to breast cancer research, her role as an educator to many breast cancer specialists, and her dedication to advocating the importance of clinical cancer research.

This important biennial award, which is offered by the Bob Pinedo Cancer Care Award Foundation, is given to internationally renowned researchers active in innovative cancer research or compassionate cancer patient care.  Winners receive a bronze sculpture in the form of Professor Pinedo's hand, designed by Floris Tilanus, symbolising the strength and hope of healing. They also receive 100,000 euros to be used for research.

This prize was created in 2016 by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW) in honour of Dr Herbert (Bob) Pinedo, an internationally recognised Dutch oncologist and researcher who has had a profound impact in the world of oncology.
