Dr. Giuseppe Curigliano to receive the first ESO Umberto Veronesi Memorial Award during 15th St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference

Dr. Giuseppe Curigliano, a member of the Breast International Group (BIG), to receive the “ESO Umberto Veronesi Memorial Award” during 15th St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference on 15 March 2017.

On 15 March 2017, during the opening and award ceremony (14:30-15:30) of the St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference, Dr. Giuseppe Curigliano will receive the first “ESO Umberto Veronesi Memorial Award” and will also give the following lecture: “Identification of genetic determinants of breast cancer immunogenicity.”

Giuseppe Curigliano, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Division of Early Drug Development at the European Institute of Oncology, in Milan, Italy. He is a clinician and researcher specialising in early drug development for patients with solid tumours with a special commitment to breast cancer. He is also involved in translational research related to immunotherapy, precision medicine, and biomarker identification breast cancer models.

Dr. Curigliano’s research experiences include principal or co-investigator work in several phase I-II clinical trials with targeted agents, cytotoxic and endocrine agents in breast cancer. He has also been involved as principal investigator in several phase I studies with peptide vaccines for breast cancer (either in the adjuvant either in the metastatic setting). Dr Curigliano’s research interests include the biology of breast cancer, predictive markers of response to therapy and new anti-cancer agents. He is the coordinator of a research platform on new drug development in breast cancer at the European Institute of Oncology (Milan, Italy).

Dr. Curigliano is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG) and of the Breast International Group (BIG) Immune Task Force. He is founding member of and scientific chair for the International Cardio-Oncology Society (ICOS). He has been a member of the ESMO Press & Media Affairs Committee from 2015 and has served on the ESMO Women for Oncology, ESMO Membership and ESMO Global Policy Committees since 2016. In 2014 he was a scientific co-chair of the IMPAKT-ESMO meeting that was held in Brussels and as “metastatic breast cancer track chair” of the ESMO 2014 meeting in Madrid. He is an ESMO Faculty Member for breast cancer and has been a member of the Programme Scientific Committee of the St Gallen Conference since 2011. He has contributed to over 210 peer-reviewed publications. He is also on the European School of Oncology (ESO) faculty committee. He has been appointed as Editor of Annals of Oncology for the period 2014-2018, and is Co-Editor in Chief of The Breast and Editor of Journal of Clinical Oncology and Cancer Treatment Reviews.
