The Breast International Group (BIG) is an international not-for-profit organisation that represents the largest global network of academic groups dedicated to breast cancer research. 30+ clinical trials are run or under development under the BIG umbrella at any one time. Our mission is to facilitate and accelerate breast cancer research internationally.

For its Headquarters based in Brussels, BIG is seeking a:

Fundraising MarCom Officer (M/F)

Job summary 

You will report to the Director of Fundraising and be involved in a variety of activities including the following:

Fundraising/marketing

  • Acquires a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities of the Development Unit, including gift processing and acknowledgment
  • Manages the fundraising database and the CRM tool
  • Segments the CRM database as needed, to tailor approach to specific donor groups
  • Conducts general research as needed, for example to identify potential donor opportunities, including with companies, foundations and trusts
  • Develops and coordinates activities and events with BIG member groups as needed
  • Supports the planning and execution of BIG fundraising events

Communication with existing/potential donors

  • Develops fundraising focused materials to ensure members of Committee of Ambassadors, BIG staff and volunteers have the tools necessary to communicate the right messages about BIG
  • Writes, develops and distributes monthly newsletter to BIG supporters and colleagues, using CRM database
  • Develops tailored communications as needed, to meet the needs of segmented donor groups : powerpoint, movies, brochures
  • Develops and manages digital channels, content for the BIG website/social media and makes updates as required
  • Uses, feeds and monitors social networking according to approved policies to raise / monitor awareness about BIG
  • Analyses results of communication tools and campaigns

General

  • Helps coordinate the activities of the Development Unit with those of other units within BIG HQ
  • Performs a variety of general and specific administrative functions as well as other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A bachelor degree in communications, marketing or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for establishing positive working relationships, networking and conveying an empathetic disposition towards prospects’ needs and interests
  • Ability to develop and write compelling content for BIG communications materials, newletters, website, social media and other platforms, as required
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with large groups and individuals
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures with minimal guidance
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism while coordinating a diverse variety of daily and special project deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to accurately and professionally process a high volume of correspondence, documents and other often sensitive and confidential information
  • Highly organised, with ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Fundamental understanding of office methods, procedures and practices
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of a wide variety of software packages, such as MS Office Professional
  • Ability to maintain confidential office records and files, screen incoming telephone calls and visitors
  • Excellent Dutch and English, good working knowledge of French or other languages
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards

Project Manager (M/F)

As an experienced Clinical Trials Project Manager in the Scientific Operations Department at BIG Headquarters (HQ), you will focus on the set-up and execution of international clinical studies (Phase  II / III) or related research projects with a variety of partners. You will be based in Brussels, Belgium, report to a Project Management Leader (line manager) and the Scientific Director, and will be engaged in the following types of activities:

  • Serve as a main study contact between multiple partners, including BIG member groups, pharmaceutical industry partners, and a variety of vendors for specific clinical trials
  • Coordinate BIG HQ responsibilities for individual clinical trials, e.g.,
    • conduct of group surveys / site feasibility
    • set up of study governance committees and related documentation
    • coordination of governance committees and working groups and their meetings (including taking minutes)
    • development of study contracts and budgets in collaboration with the Legal and Finance departments,
    • prepare, manage and follow-up on meetings between partners (including taking minutes)
    • Prepare and/or review study documents and communications
    • Assist in preparing reports and articles if needed
    • Assist in preparation and follow-up of study-related grants if needed
    • other scientific operations activities as needed
    • ensure that BIG principles and processes are adhered to, under the guidance of Project Management Leaders
  • Organise internal team meetings
  • Maintain BIG HQ study / project files
  • Assist Project Management Leaders as needed
  • As part of a project management team, contribute to the improvement of all processes and procedures as well as all related documentation in BIG HQ

 

Qualifications sought:

  • Academic degree, preferably in a (para)medical discipline
  • Experience in the set-up and management of all operational aspects of clinical trials (in academia, industry, or CRO)
  • In-depth knowledge of methodologies, regulations and procedures related to clinical trials
  • Experience in oncology clinical trials a plus
  • Possess strong analytical skills and highly organized project management abilities, keeping an eye on both detail, while maintaining a broad overview
  • Ability to:
    • work effectively in multicultural teams within BIG headquarters and the BIG network, and across organisational boundaries, respecting differences between people from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds
    • learn, interpret and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures with minimal guidance
    • accurately and professionally process a high volume of correspondence, documents and other often sensitive and confidential information
    • maintain a high level of poise and professionalism while coordinating a diverse variety of daily and special project deadlines simultaneously
  • Native or native-like written and spoken English; French, Dutch or other languages a plus
  • A high level of integrity and sense of responsibility and professionalism

Medical Advisor (M/F)

Function: Contributes to the scientific development, set-up and conduct of clinical trials, research programs and related activities in collaboration with other BIG Headquarters (HQ) scientific staff, BIG members and various scientific partners

Primary responsibilities:

  • Supports BIG scientific leadership, under the guidance of the BIG Medical Director, to develop and execute BIG’s scientific mission and strategic goals
  • Contributes to the conception of patient-focused, new-drug and non-drug, patient- oriented clinical trials and research programmes for BIG
  • Supports the further development of clinical trials and research programmes with various scientific partners, including BIG Group members, other academic networks, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and various vendors, among others
  • Participates in the negotiation, set-up and conduct of multinational scientific collaborations involving multiple partners, e.g., by contributing to study protocol development and writing as well as core document review as an expert in one or more areas of clinical research
  • Supports the project management team in the review of core study documents, scientific meeting preparation and various other activities
  • Supports the finance and legal teams in the budget and contracts planning
  • Provides scientific training and guidance to staff members
  • Plans, attends and follows-up on scientific, project and business meetings, including those of trial-specific committees
  • Ensures  compliance to GCP, SOPs and ethical conduct within the studies for which one is responsible
  • Represents the association in its various scientific activities, including speaking at workshops, cancer conferences and other events as needed

Qualifications sought:

  • Medical degree, experience in Oncology Clinical Research is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Fluent spoken/written English, other languages are a plus
  • High standard of verbal and written communication skills
  • Being positive, enthusiastic and energetic, with a ‘’hands-on’’ approach…
